Preview, ScreenShots, and Three Cool Wallpapers

Paul Thurrot has written an in-depth preview on Windows Vista Beta 1. He has divided his exclusive article into three parts:

Part - 1 covers introduction and installation process
Part - 2 deals with User Interface
Part - 3 covers misc. topics like gaming, security, and Internet Explorer 7.

Some bits and bytes from the article:

Virtual Folders: Think back to when Windows 95 first shipped. Windows 95 let you create shortcuts to documents and folders in more easily accessible places (typically the desktop). In the same vein, Virtual Folders let you round up related files and folders in more easily accessible places as well. But Virtual Folders are far more powerful than simple shortcuts. That's because Virtual Folders are smart--that is, they update dynamically--and because they make it easier for you to organize your data in ways that make sense to you.

Control Panel: Control Panel has been significantly updated with a new look and feel, though it retains the category-based organizational scheme that Microsoft pioneered in XP. In Classic View, Control Panel betrays a few new features, including an Auxiliary Display applet, which will work with the next generation of notebook computers and Tablet PCs. A new Programs applet replaces the old Add or Remove Programs and provides front-ends for adding programs, viewing and removing installed programs and updates, and other options. A new Solutions to Problems applet will apparently one day out-help Help, but right now it's pretty useless. And the Windows Parental Controls applet hints at future features, while in Beta 1 it offers just limited functionality.

Along with his exclusive article, he has also posted brand new screen shots and three cool new Windows Vista wallpapers.

Thanks for keeping us up-to-date with the news. I'd love to see some screenshot of the new Windows Vista

From the article:
Sync Manager
As with build 5048, the eventual greatness that will be Sync Manager is only tantalizingly hinted at by the inclusion of a bare bones version of this program (Figure). Sometime by Beta 1, we'll have a better look at Sync Manager, but right now even less useful than the Items to Synchronize applet in XP, which is really saying something.

I wonder how this will compare to ThinkSync (part of Stardock's ThinkDesk suite)?

Quite a good read. I like some of the ideas presented in Vista and some I am not so sure about, and it seems neither is Paul.

He complains because you can't read the window beneath a transparent titlebar but if it wasn't blurred he'd complain even more because it'd be even more chaotic to pick out the text of the top window. He's just looking for something to complain about and he used to be the biggest MS cheerleader. I myself think the frosted glass look is a good idea for a transparent titlebar. That being said I now mostly use a Mac so I'm no MS cheerleader I just am a computer enthusiast.

Vista is a OS X rip off cause if u compare the technology appeared in Mac OS X, you will see that all the technology appeared in OS X is in Vista and the worst part is OS X appeared earlier then Vista, therefore this proved that Microsoft is now copying Apple OS. Try beating that.

You really ought to pick your battles better if you are talking to me. You are preaching to the quoir I'm posting from my primary computer which is a Mac. I don't care who copied who either way if they did or not. Companies do that sometimes, get over it.

Mac OS X may have got pushed out there before Vista....But MS copying Apple? C'moon. The main bulk of what comprises Vista/Longhorn has been on the drawing board for some years now, and it's unlikely that anyone from MS went tiptoeing over to Apple for a sticky beak into what they were doing. Bill might have some friends in the CIA, however

All technologies have some similarities....especially computers, and for the majority, Vista can't come soon enough.

Just as well large corporations like MS and ect don't take lame comments from the peanut gallery too much to heart....nothing would get invented, developed upon or released
